Thanks for this survey on ReportPro.
Reportpro is very important to us and is used heavily in our applications.
We create custom reports for our clients (more than 400 clients at this day) and the idea of having to redo them with another report manager is simply a nightmare!
So any proposal to improve Report Pro is welcome. Despite some drawbacks, it still does the job well, and for a long time!

We are still using VO, but as we are migrating to X#, the next version of ReportPro, if any, could be only for X#

All your suggestions for improvments are interesting. For us, the most interesting could be :
• Native PDF and XLS export enhancement.
• Native Barcode and QRcode (datamatrix) etc.
• HTML rendering
• XML report export as standard (instead of the old .rpt)
• Automatic conversion from RPT to XML or Tool to convert existing RPT to XML
• Vertical font and/or angle management

I could add also the following :
• Conditional font and color for cells (as bBrowser does)
• Pdf with certificate

Report Pro has served us well and we have hundreds of customised layouts with around 200 clients.

We have a wish-list and would gladly pay for a substantial upgrade which added new features and address some of the old shortcomings.

2. Uses [ X] VO [ X] XSharp
3. As a database you use. [ ] DBFs [ X]Temporary DBFs [ ] SQL

Thanks for all the feedback in this thread.
So far it is clear that Most people use RP2, and some are using RP3. Nobody uses both (this makes sense, I think)
And many people use both VO and X#, some only VO, some only X#.
I personally think it is time for those who have not done so, to migrate their VO apps to X#. It is very well possible.
Ask around here for the experiences of others.

We will start to work on this. What we most likely will do is:
- Create one new version of RP that can read both RP2 and RP3 reports and saves the new reports in XML. Development / maintenance for Rp2 and RP3 for VO and X# will be frozen.
- This new version will be written with X# and will be based on the RP2 code for .Net. So it will use the VO compatible UI
- We will expose the tool as COM component for those that need to use it in VO. There will be a RP3 compatible Component (that emulates the old RP3 ActiveX) as well as a new RP2 compatible COM Component. Most likely we will also create a .Net wrapper that emulates RP3 for X#.
- We are not sure if we can support "handwritten" reports in VO this way. We are looking into this.
- Finally, we plan to migrate FoxPro reports to the new RP XML format, so they can also be run.

Robert
