X# Summit

Post by wriedmann »

Hello, specially Karl and the development team,
given the actual situation personally I don't think we will be able to meet for the X# Summit in October in Memmingen.
It may seem too early, and personally I would expect than in October we can move again in Europe, but for a conference we would need to large locations.
Currently it seems that a 20/1 rule may be imposed for the next years: only one person or household per 20 qm.
So it may be better to organize it as a virtual event (like Microsoft has done itself for all events until mid 2021).

Wolfgang,

We share your concerns about how the Covid 19 crisis could cause problems for our event in October.
However we think it is too early to decide at this moment to cancel, reschedule or virtualize this event.
Let's wait for a month or two to see how things develop all over Europe.

X# Summit

Robert, Wolfgang and All

I would advise all to think about this.

I have no idea how things will all pan out. But FWIW I've just been trying to set things up so I could play Chess (or rather get beaten at) with my grandson who lives 30 miles away.

I was banned from setting up a chess board on the dining room table, so had to resort to the garage with radio link / Camera etc.

Guess what, my usual supplier of such bits and pieces was out of stock and did not expect more for 3 months. Eventually I found what I was looking for elsewhere, but the claim was "last in stock".

Now guess - where were they all sourced? - China.

Hi Robert,
our local authorities let leak a restart plan to the press, and there was written that we can count on social distancing until there is some vaccine available.
And I'm pretty sure also other countries will take similar restrictions. And other sources are saying that we may have some regional and short period lockdowns when there are too many infections in a region.
Therefore I asked about "virtualizing" the conference - hoping that we will have more partecipants.
But unfortunately such a virtual event makes us loose one of the most important things of a conference: meeting people and talking having a glass of beer or two.

Not only is the X# summit coming up, but the Southwest Fox conference is less than one month later. What concerns me about software conferences this year is not the conference itself, but flying to the conference. At the conference social distancing and other precautions can be implemented pretty religiously, but I'm not sure about how safe flights will be.
