Windows 11 working like W10

Post by ic2 »

This is a continuation of https://www.xsharp.eu/forum/topic/4200?p=30311#p30311 continued in a more appropriate forum:

Karl, you wrote to look W11 more like W10 you use:

1 first you need ExplorerPatcher (with this you can place the taskbar to the right or the startmenu to the left)
2 OpenShell (former ClassicShell) replaces the windows menu. OpenShell requires ExplorerPatcher.
3 FreeLaunchBar replaces Quick Launch Bar. You can place menus on it which I find quite usefull. FLB also requires ExplorerPatcher. There is also a paid version (True Launch Bar) with more features

1 I didn't know. That would take away one of my objectives as I can move the taskbar to the right. You are sure it's not only for moving the Start button (left/middle/right)? That can be done with Windows settings too.

2 I know. I still combine that classic (XP) menu with the W10 menu, especially because it's easier to connect documents to it, or quickly browse through it when you do not know the exact name of some program you are going to use. But I use the W10 menu 90% of the time. In the current website of the Start11 menu (https://www.stardock.com/products/start11/) I see https://www.stardock.com/products/start ... screen.png which should addresses my other 2 objectives too; I don't think that already worked at the beginning of this year when I checked it out

3 I think I could still get the quick launch menu by adding a shortcut to %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch like I did in W11. I see it's an old utility, but if it still works...Does your quick launch look like this?

Dick, with ExplorerPatcher you can definitely move the taskbar to the right, see attached picture.

If you want to use OpenShellMenu I think ExplorerPatcher is the only way to go.

Of course you can add the standard Quick Launch to the taskbar, but FLB or True Launch Bar are far superior, you have separators between groups and one-click-menus with submenus. Icon sizes can be changed, text can be shown etc....

Another great tool is winaerotweaker, you can easily modify almost anything in Windows within a gui-program.

Thanks Karl, I will keep the info if at some point in time I would decide to go to W11. But I am obviously not in a hurry, as in W10 I can do all this without the tricks :)
