Seems I have found a solution (Johan Nel eyesight)

Post by lumberjack »

Hi all,
Last week I was thinking of ways to become productive again since my loss of vision and thought of an overhead projector, but unfortunately for me to "see" most of the time I am trying to read in the shadow of my body, since I cannot see text further than 30cm...

I however asked at the shop to connect a laptop to a HD television set and after some Notepad testing it appear I would be able to have some capabilities with the 50 inch curved screen (text visible and using the Windows Magnifier for unrecognizable text) giving a good balance between reading and not having to feel like playing tennis on my wheeled chair. Fingers crossed!!!

In the mean time, thanks to all for the wishes. Although slow it seems I am able to at least navigate in XIDE (thanks Chris) with large fonts giving me effectively an 80X20 source code view on the 50 inch screen.

Best wishes to all and hope to be active again, although it might be slow.

Kind regards,

Johan Nel

Hey, that's fantastic to hear! If there's anything we could do to help you, please shout!

Regarding XIDE specifically, if you can think of something like bigger windows, bigger fonts, anything that could help you out, let me know. I will be more than happy to add an option to change the IDE appearance in such a way that it will be more productive for you.

cheers!

Hi Chris,
Thank you. Well speech recognition will be great thanks... :-D

On a serious note. So far all seems fine with using XIDE, the only direct difficulty are the Projects/Toolbox/Properties/Local pane which seems a bit small, but with the Magnifier on I am able to see it.

Take care,

Johan

Hi Rene,

Slow is not a word in my vocabulary.... :-D

Will try my best, hopefully my code will still execute fast even if I type it slow.

Hi Dick,
Thank you. Well this is not work this is relaxation. I am slowly getting into what I was doing before my health issues... Rewriting my data-driven engine and continue the article series I was busy with in the Vulcan newsgroup which I hipe the team will allow to be published in the forum..
Regards,
Johan
